Behind the Scenes: "Joan is a true pioneer. One of the first-ever stand up female comics to achieve success. She's also a pioneer in plastic surgery—'I wish I had a twin so I'd know how I'd look without plastic surgery.' Good line, and she probably means it. This show features my picking up Joan in a white limo (It's sort of 'pimp like' she says) and we are rolling all the way to our shooting destination, Le Cirque Restaurant then on Madison Avenue in New York. I have also recently interviewed Joan for 'My Generation,' the PBS TV show that I work on, and you'll find that interview elsewhere on the site. From the 'being a guest' stand point, Joan is one of the best. She's had her own talk show, so she comes to the interview knowing what a guest is supposed to do—'be entertaining!' And that's in evidence here. One of my favorite parts of this clip is the little lesson in table manners that Joan provides, as well as her recollections of how bad a cook her mother was." —Bill Boggs
