"I interviewed the 'Godfather of Soul' twice. The first time was backstage before a show in North Carolina, when I was doing my show 'Southern Exposure with Bill Boggs' for the ABC TV affiliate in High Point, N.C.—WGHP-TV. That was my first daily talk show and I produced it. Later, Richard Baker came down from Philadelphia and pitched in as associate producer. That night we watched James Brown pulverize the crowd—he was a dynamic phenomenon. The second time I interviewed him, which is shown here, was in the studio at channel 5 in NY. What you'll see is James Brown talking about his humble roots, his shoe shine boy beginnings, the need for kids to stay in school. But my favorite part of this interview is when I ask him the story behind putting on all those capes." —Bill Boggs
