Bill's Interview with
Andrew Dice Clay & Dr. Joyce Brothers

"The 'Diceman' was at an early peak when we recorded this show in 1985. The ego, the macho, the self-possessed irreverent humor were in full display. And of course his anger, swagger and cigarette flingling all combined to make him a unique comedian in a kind of new and outrageous niche. Some critics were troubled and repulsed by his on stage act. So my executive producing partner Richard Baker and I had the idea to team him with the noted popular psychologist and media personality, Dr. Joyce Brothers for 'analysis.' The interchange between the brash Clay and the demure and intelligent Dr Brothers made headlines at the time. Andrew Dice Clay was easy to work with and, interestingly, had a significant amount of his stage persona in terms of swagger and attitude—but not at all crude—off stage as well. That's much different than both Howard Stern and Morton Downey, Jr., who are and were much different off the air than on. I think you'll enjoy this classic moment of TV producing."—Bill Boggs
